NZF will do its best to arrange Qurbani as per your selected animal (cow share or lamb/sheep). If that option isn’t available, we may proceed with the alternate to ensure your Qurbani is fulfilled properly and on time.

What do I need to do to fulfill my Qurbani obligation?

To fulfill your Qurbani obligation, simply donate the required amount for your Qurbani. Once your donation is made, NZF Canada will ensure the sacrifice is completed in a halal, ethical manner and the meat is distributed to those in need. You will receive an email once your Qurbani is completed.

What is included in my Qurbani donation?

A donation of $500 covers the purchase and sacrifice of a lamb or sheep. A donation of $450 covers one share of cow. This price includes cutting, cleaning, packaging, storage, and distribution of the meat to local needy families.

Is one Qurbani/Udhiya sufficient for the entire family?

Yes, one Qurbani/Udhiya is sufficient for one family who live together regardless of the number of household members.

How do I know that my Qurbani has been completed so I can cut my hair and nails?

Once your Qurbani is fulfilled, NZF Canada will send you an email, after which you may proceed with cutting your nails and hair, following the Sunnah of Eid.

What happens if I donate less than the full amount for Qurbani?

If you donate less than the required amount, your Qurbani obligation is not fulfilled. Your donation will go towards helping provide additional meat to more families in need. To meet the full Qurbani requirement, you must donate the full amount.

When is the deadline for Qurbani donations?

Qurbani donations must be made before Eid al-Adha, preferably before the Eid prayer. Donations can be accepted up until the 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah. To ensure the timely completion of your Qurbani, it's recommended to donate as early as possible.

How will NZF distribute the Qurbani meat?

NZF Canada will distribute your Qurbani/Udhiya meat to the most vulnerable members of our community through local community partners and direct deliveries to families in need, including low-income families, seniors, refugees, and others struggling to make ends meet. NZF Canada ensures that Qurbani meat is packaged in halal, hygienic conditions.

Where will NZF distribute the Qurbani meat?

Qurbani meat can be distributed in GTA, Hamilton, Waterloo/Kitchener, Oakville, Windsor, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and/or Montreal.

How much meat will be distributed to those in need?

NZF will work with local partners on the ground to distribute up to 10 lbs. of meat per household.

Do I need to be present for the Qurbani sacrifice to be done?

No, you do not need to be present. Once you make your donation, NZF Canada handles the entire process of the sacrifice, packaging, and local distribution. All you need to do is donate, and we will ensure it’s carried out properly.

Can I specify who receives the Qurbani meat?

For local donations, the meat is distributed to those in need through trusted community partners. Although we can't specify individual recipients at this time, rest assured that your donation will directly help local families and individuals who are struggling with food insecurity, particularly during the holidays of Eid.

Is my Qurbani donation tax-deductible?

Yes, NZF Canada is a registered charity, and your donation is eligible for a tax receipt. You will receive an official donation receipt via email, which you can use for tax purposes.

Can I donate my Qurbani on behalf of others, like my family or loved ones?

Yes, you can donate Qurbani on behalf of your family, including your children and relatives. If someone in your household is unable to perform Qurbani themselves, you can do so on their behalf. If you are donating for multiple people, simply donate for each person individually.

What if I can't afford Qurbani this year?

If you cannot afford Qurbani due to financial constraints, there is no obligation to perform it. However, if you are financially able in the future, you may want to consider performing Qurbani then. Allah (SWT) rewards even small acts of charity and kindness, so if you're able, consider making a sadaqah donation in a way that fits your current circumstances. Every contribution counts, and your support helps those in need, especially during these blessed days.

How is the animal selected for Qurbani?

The animals used for Qurbani are chosen based on strict guidelines to ensure they meet the religious and ethical requirements. The animals must be free of defects and meet the prescribed age requirements (e.g., at least six months for a lamb, one year for a goat). They are handled by trained professionals to ensure humane treatment and proper slaughter according to Islamic principles.

How will NZF ensure that the Qurbani is fulfilled correctly?

NZF is working with local reputable professional slaughterhouses and butcher shops to ensure the process from acquiring the animal to the packaging of the meat is at the highest level. NZF Canada will ensure that the animals selected for Qurbani and the method of slaughter will adhere to the strict requirements of an acceptable Islamic Qurbani.

With the rising cost of living and current economic uncertainty, thousands of Canadians continue to live in poverty and are struggling to make ends meet, despite the availability of government support and benefits. Many of our most vulnerable community members struggle to afford food, especially with the rising cost of halal meat. By giving your Udhiya/Qurbani locally, you can help ensure that our brothers and sisters in need can enjoy a warm meal and take part in the joys of Eid.
