Community Services
Our community services include programs that aim to strengthen the Muslim community in Canada by working together through the pillar of Zakat. Our services include the NZF Feeds Food Program that transports fresh food packages to vulnerable Muslims across Canada, and seasonal programs that support families throughout the year.
Zakat Assistance Program
NZF’s Zakat Assistance Program puts our donor’s funds into action in impactful ways to change the lives of needy families across Canada. This program provides recipients with food, housing support, medical assistance, debt relief and other essentials. Our caseworkers work 1-on-1 with individuals in need, connecting them with resources and further support in their journey to becoming self-sufficient.

Education

As your trusted Zakat partner, NZF Canada is committed to providing you with a safe, simple and accessible way to pay your Zakat and Sadaqah online. We provide periodic reminders on the best days to make your donations for maximum reward, send out annual Zakat reminders and facilitate many ways to give including online donations, donating cryptocurrencies, donating by cheque and more.
Zakat Distribution
At National Zakat Foundation, we distribute 100% of Zakat locally to Muslims across Canada. This includes those who are experiencing financial hardship or struggling to meet their basic needs. Qualifying applicants receive funds to assist with food, clothing, shelter, medications and other essentials.Our casework services and private and confidential. Each applicant is assigned a caseworker who works with them to assess their financial needs, navigate resources and build a self-sustainability plan.

We believe in local giving of Zakat, according to the instruction that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gave to his companion, Mu’adh, who was sent to spread the message of Islam in Yemen, “O Mu’adh! Inform them that Allah makes Zakat obligatory for them. (It is) to be taken from their rich and given to their poor.” [Bukhari].
NZF provides assistance for a short period of time (2-4 months generally). However, our team of caseworkers are equipped with the knowledge of government benefits and community resources, which are key in providing a more holistic service, with an aim toward self-sustainability.
Those who are seeking Zakat go through a financial assessment process in order to determine if they are qualified to receive Zakat in accordance with the guidelines set by our Shari’ah Advisors. Our team of caseworkers work with each client to ensure that all information is accurate, and the needs of the client can be met through Zakat assistance.
