A Pillar of Hope: Asiya's Story

After her husband passed away, Asiya worked hard to raise her two sons as a single mother. When they grew older, they moved to Canada and eventually asked Asiya to join them.

But when Asiya moved to Canada, her sons had completely changed. The kids who she taught to walk and talk no longer had patience for her. For them, she was old-fashioned, a nag, and a burden.

Things became worse when her sons told her to leave.

In a foreign country, homeless and without any money, Asiya had nowhere to go and didn't know what to do. She couldn't even apply for welfare because she had been sponsored by her sons.

When she learned about NZF at the masjid, she asked us to help with food and rent just for a short time while she looked for work.

Determined to provide for herself, Asiya learned to use the public transit system, found work as a school crossing guard, and started catering food to help make ends meet, all on her own.

This is the power of Zakat - it gives people hope for a brighter future, and helps them lead dignified lives.
