Hope amidst depression!

By: Laila Al-Balki - Caseworker

To me, hope is something we all aspire to have, but it is a dire need for people with depression. People with depression experience helplessness and hopelessness. Hope for a depressed person can literally save their life. Hope is air for the depressed person. In this post, I would like to shed some light on hope and  how a seed of hope can save a life.

During a gloomy episode, where all light is sucked out of you leaving you with no light, that is when hope is most needed. Hope is a source of light to your soul.

In the dictionary, hope is defined as “a feeling that is wanted and can be had.” Another definition is “events will turn out for the best.”

The question is can a depressed person be hopeful and optimistic?

Yes! It is not easy to do so but it is CERTAINLY attainable. A depressed person finds it very difficult to be optimistic. To a depressed person, everything feels and looks gloomy. ‘There is no reason to be optimistic if everything is gloomy.’

Now  you may think or know someone that believes things will  NOT get better.

What if and only if you thought, "I am going to have a seed of hope.” A seed of hope...that's all.

Hope,  no matter how small, has the power to make a significant change in your life!

Laila
