Our Mission
Our mission is to provide the Muslim community with an end-to-end Zakat service, encompassing:
- Education
- Calculation
- Collection
- Distribution
Whenever National Zakat Foundation hires new employees, the first portion of the training we give them concerns the importance of the pillar of Zakat. At NZF, we are believers in Zakat; our organization is simply a means to the fulfillment of this essential aspect to our faith. Keeping this in mind, we formed our mission: Efficient Zakat provision in the Canadian Muslim community.Because our goal is to revive the pillar of Zakat, our mission mainly consists of services we provide to the community. The first goal from our four-part mission is education. Zakat is an obligatory practice in the Islamic faith and it is a right of the poor. This is why not paying Zakat can result in sinning in two different ways; not fulfilling an obligation, as well as transgressing the rights of others. To help our brothers and sisters who do not know the seriousness of this pillar, we provide a multitude of free resources for Zakat education; we hold Zakat seminars, distribute Simple Zakat Guides, and offer video trainings in our online Video Library—that is not to mention our ongoing blog, and our current projects that are underway. The second goal from our four-part mission is calculation. Zakat calculation is not as complicated as it might seem, and to help Muslims understand that, we offer free, accessible Zakat calculation services that are specially designed to be easy-to-follow. From the resources that we provide are our one-on-one consulting services, our online Zakat Calculator, and our Turbo Zakat app (available on Android). The third goal from our four-part mission is collection. Once we have informed the community on their duty to give Zakat and assisted them in calculating the amount that is due, we help them get that Zakat to the right place. Without the support of their Zakat and Sadaqah (voluntary charity), NZF would not have been able to assist as many people as we have to date. Anyone who wishes to donate their Zakat for us to handle and distribute can do so here.
The fourth and final goal from our four-part mission is distribution. There are a number of Islamic resources that define where Zakat must be given, such as the Hadith of Mu’adh bin Jabal, and the categories of people who are eligible to receive Zakat. At National Zakat Foundation, we believe in local distribution of Zakat to Muslims who fall under the categories of poor and needy. Often, our fellow brothers and sisters who require Zakat are also new to Islam or overwhelmed by debts. Read about their stories here. That is our mission. We provide these services to the community because we are believers of Zakat. Will you help us uphold this essential pillar of our faith?
