Established in 2013, National Zakat Foundation was created to fill the gap of Zakat collection and distribution in Canada. Many of those who give their Zakat regularly are unaware that one should give their Zakat locally and most are also unaware that there is a growing need for Zakat in Canada. Contributing to this is often the misconception that government funds and support are more than enough to bridge the gap for those who are in need – which is not always the case. 

Imran*, his wife and their three young children recently moved to Canada on refugee status after experiencing Islamophobic violence. The trauma caused his wife to develop severe psychological distress and attempt suicide. Her fragile health, coupled with schizophrenia and the continuation of antipsychotic medication, impacted her obligations as a parent.

We are proud to announce that Nisa Homes, a distinguished initiative established as a project of NZF Canada in 2015, will be joining together with Nisa Helpline to operate under the umbrella of Nisa Foundation.
