From Struggle to Strength: Amjad’s Story

Amjad’s story reveals how quickly life can turn from stability to hardship.

Known in Gaza for his generosity, he never imagined he’d one day need the generosity of others.

At 72, Amjad arrived in Canada with his wife, his sister, and his young daughter, carrying only memories of the life they’d left behind. He had exhausted every dollar he had to bring them to safety.

Despite his age and frail health, Amjad was prepared to work, but job doors remained closed. Government assistance was delayed, leaving him helpless as his daughter’s emotional scars deepened into severe depression.

The pain he witnessed in her took a toll on him, stirring a despair in him that he had never known before and memory lapses that reminded him of his vulnerability.

However, thanks to your generosity, Amjad and his family received some relief in the form of food and rent assistance.

This support was more than a relief—it was a gift of dignity at a time when they felt close to losing hope.

“We are so grateful for the many months your organization supported us, and we know you’re helping so many others in need.”

Amjad, who once gave to those around him without a second thought, found himself lifted by the very compassion he used to extend.

Your support gave him something he didn’t think he could find again: the comfort of community and a sense that they were not alone.

For so many evacuees in Canada, the journey toward peace and healing is filled with heavy memories. Yet, together, we can be the lifeline they need—just as the Ansaar stood by the Prophet (S) and his companions.

Be like the Ansaar today. Support families like Amjad’s as they work toward stability in a new home.
