Mirha’s Journey: Rebuilding After Loss

Mirha fled the war in Syria with her husband and children, seeking safety and a fresh start in Canada. She had already endured the heartbreak of losing her extended family to the conflict, but her hopes for a new beginning were shattered by another tragedy: her husband’s sudden death.

This loss left Mirha to care for her children alone in a new country where she didn’t speak the language. Grieving and overwhelmed, she struggled to adapt to her new reality while managing the responsibilities of parenting and survival.

Her financial challenges added to the strain. She spent her savings on her husband’s funeral, food, and rent, only to face an unexpected hurdle—thousands of dollars in credit card debt. Unaware of how credit cards worked, Mirha was caught off guard by accumulating interest, which trapped her in a cycle of financial hardship.

Desperate for support, Mirha heard about National Zakat Foundation (NZF) through a friend and reached out for help. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to provide her with food and refer her to the Credit Counselling Society, offering her a way to manage her debt and rebuild her stability.

With this support, Mirha finally felt a sense of relief and shared:

"You made me feel alive again; before I was drowning, and I was not breathing."

Your Zakat is not only a financial pillar of support but also a message of hope—a reminder Muslims are all connected in compassion and solidarity among us. It upholds people’s dignity, provides hope to those who have nowhere to turn and ensures they feel seen and heard.
