Partner Spotlight: Windsor Islamic Association
Since 2017, NZF Canada has worked closely with Windsor Islamic Association (WIA) and it's program, Islamic Social Welfare & Assistance, to serve financially vulnerable families in Windsor.
The WIA offers the tight-knit Muslim community not just a place to worship but also organized social services to help anyone in need. Through our partnership, 190 families in the city receive food packages through the NZF Feeds Food Program every month. Additionally, the WIA often refers those in need to our Zakat Assistance Program and this year; we distributed $28,440 to 702 Zakat recipients from Windsor.
Our program coordinator, Lobna Mahdi recently visited Windsor Islamic Association to meet the team in-person. The WIA's Board of Directors graciously gifted an Award of Appreciation to express their gratitude to NZF for our commitment to helping them serve the community in Windsor.
My favourite part of my trip to Windsor was seeing how tightly-knit the Muslim community is there. I spent several hours at the mosque and at no point was it empty or silent; it was constantly busy as people of all ages and backgrounds preferred to spend their Wednesday attending various programs and events at the mosque. The ISWA team told me that if anyone in the community needs help, they always know where to go: The Mosque.
- Lobna Mahdi, Program Coordinator
We’re truly grateful for our partnership with WIA that benefits and empowers Muslims in Windsor.
May Allahﷻ give them the strength they need to carry on with their incredible work and give us the strength to continue supporting WIA. Ameen.
