2021 was a difficult year for many. Some lost their jobs, some lost family members, and many have forgotten the feeling of community. But we have not forgotten. This year you reminded us that no matter the distance, we are one.    

The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said,  

“The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.”

You have answered the call of 15,865 Individuals who came to NZF for help. You have supported 5,073 households and have impacted 109 cities across Canada. You felt the ache of your Muslim neighbors and made a decision to help.    

Because of you, $3,064,213 in Zakat and Sadaqah was distributed.  

We have uplifted some of the most vulnerable in our society, relieved the debt of those who were struggling, and provided shelter for those who had no place to call home.    

With your help, in 2021, we...  

• introduced NZF Feeds, a food program where high-quality food items are delivered directly to the doorstep of our beneficiaries'  
• partnered up with a local organization and introduced financial literacy and coaching  
• expanded our education program to include a Q/A service as well as a 1-on-1 virtual consultation service  
• leveraged non-Zakat funds to bring support to all Canadians regardless of their religion

Together we have taken steps to research and plan for the following crucial programs in 2022:  

• Mental Health Program: Zakat-eligible Canadian Muslims will receive therapy sessions, fully or partially subsidized by NZF  
• Debt Relief Program: Zakat-eligible beneficiaries will receive aid and resource guides addressing the various structural stressors of spending and costs in Canada and the root causes of debt and potential solutions  
• Financial Literacy Program: One-on-one, free, financial coaching seminars and workshops
