National Zakat Foundation (NZF) Canada focuses on local giving. We believe that Zakat collected in Canada should stay in Canada, serving those in need within our own communities. This is based on the instruction of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to his companion Muʿadh when he was sent to Yemen:
“O Muʿadh! Inform them that Allah makes Zakat obligatory for them. (It is) to be taken from their rich and given to their poor.” [Bukhari]
By keeping Zakat local, we ensure that Canadian Muslims in need are supported directly, helping to build stronger and more resilient communities here at home.
